The LED Light Revolution

Who would have guest that the simple blinking light fixed to a control panel back in 1962 would turn out to be something so revolutionary that it could completely take over the entire lighting industry. The LED (light emitting diode) is poised to do just that.

LED Light Revolution

One of the most remarkable things about LED light bulbs is that they can be used in so many surprising ways that have never before seemed possible. For many years LED light bulbs have been far too expensive for general consumer use, but now, as manufacturer costs have dramatically decreased you are seeing them used as replacement lights for nearly every type of fixture out there.

To begin with LEDs are far more durable than the traditional incandescent or compact fluorescent bulbs. An average incandescent has the typical lifespan of about 750 hours. If you compare that to Christmas LED light bulbs, which have an average lifespan of 100,000 hours, you can see that these are vastly superior lights. In addition to this, LED light bulbs are designed in such a way as to not include a filament, as standard bulbs do, which makes them highly resistant to vibration and impact.

To add to this benefit, these extraordinary lights are also highly energy efficient. If you compare a 40 watt bulb, which creates enough light for you to be able to read by, you would only need 1.5 watts to create the same amount of light with LEDs. This means that if you combine all of these benefits, investing a little more upfront cost for a set of LED light bulbs, you can save a tremendous amount of money over the long term. You can find replacement bulbs for everything from under counter lighting, fixtures, and even adapters, to strait replacements for standard lighting.

The future for LEDs looks very bright. Not only are they invading the residential lighting market, they are also finding themselves in a wide variety of other places. You are beginning to see them used in unique automotive lighting, replacements to maximize efficiency in recreational vehicles, and also in boating. Beyond this the technology industry is continuously finding amazing uses for LEDs that are endlessly fascinating because of some of its unique abilities. As they continue to light the way to the future our world will also continue to change for the better as a result.
